Events Oulu – An Event in a Floating Sauna Is Something Different

A floating sauna as an event venue in Oulu offers something truly unique. It combines the Finnish sauna experience, proximity to water, modern architecture, and unhurried togetherness in a way that sets it apart from traditional meeting and event spaces.

Located on the shores of Hartaanselkä, Olosauna is a modern floating village sauna that operates year-round. Its spaces can host corporate events, private celebrations, recreational days, meetings, and various cultural events, with or without the sauna. In this article, we answer the most common questions about choosing a floating sauna as an event venue.

What makes a floating sauna a unique event venue?

A floating sauna provides an environment where water, scenery, and the warmth of the steam room are a natural part of the experience. You don’t need to build atmosphere purely through decorations or a separate theme, because the venue itself makes the occasion stand out from the ordinary.

Olosauna floats on the water on the shores of Hartaanselkä in Oulu. The river view through the windows changes with the seasons, and you can take a dip from the dock year-round. In summer, a refreshing swim can be added to the event; in winter, a cold-water plunge between warm sauna sessions.

In Olosauna’s architecture, modern design meets Finnish sauna tradition. The bright interiors, proximity to water, and warm atmosphere make it suitable for corporate events, private celebrations, and small cultural events alike.

What kinds of events can be held at a floating sauna?

Olosauna can host a wide variety of private and corporate events. The space can be booked with or without the sauna, so the sauna experience doesn’t have to be the sole focus of the event.

Olosauna is suitable for, for example:

  • birthday celebrations
  • milestone occasions and family gatherings
  • hen and stag parties
  • graduation parties
  • sauna evenings
  • company recreation days
  • team evenings
  • meetings and workshops
  • afterwork events
  • company parties
  • PR events and launches
  • programmes for international guests
  • small cultural events

At a corporate event, the occasion can begin with a meeting, workshop, or other shared programme. Afterwards, the event can continue with refreshments, sauna, and informal time together.

At private events, the sauna, dock, café, and Lounge form a cohesive whole where guests can spend time without moving from place to place.

How many people can Olosauna’s event spaces accommodate?

Olosauna is suitable for small and medium-sized groups. The right space option depends on the number of participants, the programme, and the services required.

Olosauna’s space capacities are:

  • Entire building: up to 60 people
  • Olosauna Café and Lounge: 40 seats in total
  • Olosauna Lounge: seating and table space for 18 people
  • Sauna facilities: the sauna can accommodate 30 bathers simultaneously

Booking the entire building allows the event to be held exclusively for your own group. For a smaller group, the Café and Lounge combination or the more intimate Lounge can be reserved.

The Lounge is a 23.5 square metre space that can be separated from the café with a glass door and curtains. It is suitable, for example, as a meeting room, workshop space, or yoga studio. Meeting equipment, a projector, and a screen are available for the space.

What is included in the event space rental?

The contents of the space rental depend on the chosen space and the package agreed upon for the event. It is worth checking the current prices and exact inclusions with Olosauna when submitting a quote request.

The sauna space rental includes:

  • towels
  • sauna bench covers
  • shampoo
  • water with or without bubbles

Olosauna’s café offers locally sourced, nutritious treats and refreshing drinks. Catering can be arranged in the Café and Lounge spaces, ranging from a small coffee break to a full sit-down meal.

Olosauna’s team is happy to assist with planning catering and programme elements. Bringing your own drinks is not permitted, so it is worth agreeing on drink service in advance.

A dock dip is possible year-round, taking conditions and personal wellbeing into account. Entering the water is always voluntary, and participation in the event does not require using the sauna or swimming.

How does a sauna event differ from a traditional corporate event?

A sauna event differs from a conventional corporate event above all thanks to its environment and pace. In a traditional meeting room, the focus is usually on work, whereas at a floating sauna, relaxation and informal togetherness can be naturally combined with a meeting or workshop.

The sauna can provide an informal environment where it is easier for participants to unwind from the working day. The experience is different for everyone, however, so using the sauna must be voluntary. Olosauna’s Café and Lounge spaces offer enjoyable activities and togetherness for those who do not want or are unable to use the sauna.

A corporate event might proceed, for example, as follows:

  1. Arrival and welcome refreshments
  2. Meeting, workshop, or shared opening
  3. Meal or other catering
  4. Optional sauna and dock dip
  5. Relaxed time together in the Café and Lounge spaces

At Olosauna, the environment is a visible part of the event. The water, scenery, modern architecture, and sauna make the occasion memorable without every moment of the programme needing to be filled with separate activities.

Can Olosauna be booked without using the sauna?

Olosauna’s spaces can also be booked without the sauna. For an event, the entire building, the café, the Café and Lounge combination, or the separate Lounge can be reserved.

Without the sauna, Olosauna is suitable for, for example:

  • meetings
  • workshops
  • yoga and wellbeing sessions
  • coffee breaks and meals
  • small celebrations
  • client and networking events
  • cultural programmes

The sauna can be included in the event as an optional element. This way, participants can choose whether they want to use the sauna or spend time in the other spaces.

How do you book Olosauna’s event space?

Booking Olosauna’s event space starts with getting in touch. Share the basic details of your event in your message so that Olosauna’s team can suggest a suitable space and service package.

It is worth including in your quote request:

  • desired date and time
  • estimated number of participants
  • nature of the event
  • desired space
  • preferences regarding the sauna
  • catering needs
  • any planned programme
  • required meeting technology

Not all details need to be finalised at the time of the first contact. Olosauna will help with planning the spaces, catering, and programme according to the goals of the event.

Available time slots and any restrictions on space rental are worth confirming directly with Olosauna. The earlier you get in touch, the more time there is to plan the overall package.

Why choose Olosauna as an event venue in Oulu?

Olosauna is the right event venue when you want more from an occasion than just a functional room and the necessary equipment. The floating building, river view, sauna, and café services form a package where the different phases of the event can be arranged in one place.

Olosauna’s strengths as an event venue include:

  • a unique location on the water
  • the option to book different spaces or the entire building
  • events for up to 60 people
  • sauna for 30 people
  • Café and Lounge spaces for catering
  • available meeting technology
  • the option to hold the event with or without the sauna
